feedle's blogI've been real busy, and also I need to kind-of redo the blog section here. I don't like the plugin I'm using for the blog section, so I'm considering a move to another piece of software. Things have been pretty good lately. It looks like I'll be staying around Portland for the next week. There are upcoming camping trips planned.. I'll keep you posted. It's official. MetroFi will shut down their Portland network at the end of June, says a story in today's Oregonian. Color me "not surprised". In fact, I pretty much was saying that this would inevitably happen. But, the bigger question is, who thought it would work? One only had to look at Ricochet, a company with more appropriate technology and a more conventional business model to see that the whole "micro-cellular" approach is expensive to build, difficult to maintain, and in the end not appropriate technology. Using 802.11b without some sort of enhanced service set was a horrible idea. Let it die. {mxc} As many of you know, I've been in San Francisco (well, Sunnyvale technically) this week. Here's the upcoming itinerary. I'll be returning to Portland Saturday evening. Next week, I'll be traveling to Seattle, probably Wednesday afternoon and staying until at least Monday (June 2), hopefully longer. Longer term: I know in the next two months there's trips to Spokane and The Dalles, and possibly another trip to California. If you haven't already, get on BrightKite! If you need an invite, just ask! I am going to be in the SF Bay Area next week (in Silly Valley, specifically), from Sunday (May 18) to Saturday. I'll be in training classes all day, but I'll have time in the evening if anybody wants to hang out. In light of some recent vulnerabilities, and due to an increased rise of shenanigans in general, I have turned off the ability to SSH into triton from the outside world. From now on, the only way in to the network will be via a VPN. For those on the D[a|o]rknet, this isn't a problem. If you aren't there, let me know and I have other ways of getting you access. Apparently, simply being a geek and looking "Middle Eastern" is enough to get the FBI interested in you. Fortunately, in this case, the men were neither Middle Eastern (they look more.. Serbian to me, if I had to guess) nor terrorists.. but geeks on holiday. The "climate of terror" in this country is now this bad. I've taken pictures like that before (of infrastructure that fascinated me), and now I'm left to wonder what kind of terrorist watch list I'm on as a result. If being curious is going to be a crime, we have no more freedoms left worth fighting for. Time to go. So this weekend I'm heading up to Seattle to move a friend down here to Portland. I'll be taking the train *yippee!*... My Pagan Practice
