I’m just going to leave this here. This showed up in my mailbox today. I don’t know if this is a real scam, or some very well done April Fools’ Day prank, but I’m sufficiently amused either way. I apologize for the large-ish images, but it really is worth it to see. The real payoff (hehehe) is.. well, just look at the postmark, provided to us by Canada Post.

Wow – how insane. So much attention to the check and letter, then the envelope is such crap … I can see where stuff like this would prey off desperate people …

Oh, it’s not that the envelope is crap. It’s the public service announcement on the postmark that’s the kicker. (Canada Post has been putting PSAs on postmarks for years)
Sadly, this scam is real. The check is fake. The victim deposits the check, which is then returned by the bank sometime later. The victim is then responsible for paying the bank back all that money.
