Okay, Gizmodo reported this a while ago, and I was working on this independently myself. It’s a real hoot.
For those who have a Mac, you can get a reasonable clone of the Verizon “DRRRROOOOIIIDDD” sound by using the following command in Terminal:
~$ say -v "Cellos" "jroid"
The Mac “Cellos” voice is perhaps the most bizarre sound.. it actually plays a song:
~$ say -v "Cellos" "dum dum dum dum dum dum dum he he he ho ho ho dum dum dum dum dum dum dum he he he he he ho"
You can add -o filename.aiff to get some nice mono output, which you can load into Audacity (or your favorite sound editor) and really have some fun. Add a little flanging and some reverb, and you get this sort of nonsense.
